Payuta, a meat packing factory in the Northern Urals district of Russia’s Arctic coastal Yamal-Nenets Area, exported 5,500 raw reindeer hides to Finland.
Ordered by Lapin Nahka Oy in Rovaniemi, the hides will be worked into interior decorations for public buildings and private homes and used as art material for manufacturing local souvenirs. According to Lapin Nahka’s owner manager Harri Pokka, demand for reindeer leather articles is steadily growing, and the Finnish manufacturer is interested in expanding its source base, increasing supplies, and long-term cooperation.
Payuta is Yamal’s second reindeer meat packing factory to obtain a EU certificate which authorizes it supplies of animal products to the European Union. The first licensed exporter was MP Yamalskie Oleni.
