The Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Russian Academy of Science's Siberian Branch and Chinese investors have executed an agreement intending to construct the largest scientific production center for potato growing beyond the Urals. The project requires the approval of federal authorities.

The Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Russian Academy of Science's Siberian Branch and Chinese investors have executed an agreement intending to construct the largest scientific production center for potato growing beyond the Urals. The project requires the approval of federal authorities. It may start operating at full capacity in 3 to 5 years.

Nikolay Kolchanov, the Director of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics (IC&G), and the management bodies of Xin and Most Partner, representing Chinese investors in Russia, have agreed to cooperate. The Asian businessmen intend to construct the scientific production center for potato growing in the Novosibirsk Region.

The facility will deal with seed production, grow commercial grade potato and produce starch and potato powder. The Institute of Cytology and Genetics plans to provide research support for the project throughout all of its implementation stages – from the preparation of varieties and agricultural technology to processing techniques.

The project is now seeking the approval of federal authorities to be followed by regional authorities' sign-off. Its implementation may start in 2017.
