Smolensk region discusses cooperation prospects with Poland

The Regional Administration has hosted a bilateral working meeting between Governor Alexei Ostrovsky of the Smolensk Region, Ambassador Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Poland in the Russian Federation Włodzimierz Marciniak and Krzysztof Kordas, a Minister and the Director of the Department of Commerce and Industry of the Polish Embassy in the Russian Federation.

Alexei Ostrovsky is quoted as saying while discussing hot issues and prospects for economic cooperation between the Smolensk Region and Republic of Poland: "For the last 4 years, the Regional Administration has intensively focused on attracting investments and we have achieved a great result in this area. Given the fact that we import from your country such commodities as lighting equipment and boilers, I ask you, Mr. Kordas, subject to Mr. Ambassador's consent, to consider the potential localization of Polish facilities in the Smolensk Region. This includes, among other things, wood processing and agribusiness, in particular, plant growing, whose products are supplied by the Polish party to our region."

Krzysztof Kordas noted that economic contacts provided a basis driving all other forms of cooperation, not only in business as such, and proposed to thoroughly prepare for a presentation of the Smolensk Region's economic potential to be shown next year involving representatives of Polish businesses at the premises of the Embassy of Poland in Moscow.
