At a working meeting that took place in the offices of the the Federal Road Transport Agency (Rosavtodor), representatives of the Ministry of Transport, NP GLONASS, State Traffic Inspectorate, Rostelecom and scientific community discussed prospects for Russia to utilize advanced pilotless technology.

Russia to use Finnish experience in creating roads for remote-piloted vehicles

At a working meeting that took place in the offices of the the Federal Road Transport Agency (Rosavtodor), representatives of the Ministry of Transport, NP GLONASS, State Traffic Inspectorate, Rostelecom and scientific community discussed prospects for Russia to utilize advanced pilotless technology.

R. Starovoit, the Director of Rosavtodor, mentioned a project called "Karavan" which has been under development during half a year in the country. The project contemplates the use of the experience of Finnish specialists who are now testing a special road for pilot-free transport in Lapland. Mr. Starovoit said that after the tests were completed, the Finnish colleagues would provide Rosavtodor with all working documentation based on which the road authority would define requirements to creating a similar infrastructure in Russia. This will allow not only adapting pilotless technology for the country's roads but also developing routes enabling the free transit of pilot-free cars from one country to another.
