The presentation will be held in a Japanese Embassy in the Russian Federation. This was agreed between Governor Oleg Kozhemyako of the Sakhalin Region and Ruiti Hirano, a new consul general of Japan in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

"I am genuinely glad to welcome you. I hope that the efforts we made with your predecessor to develop our cooperation will continue," Oleg Kozhemyako noted. “We intensively cooperate with Hokkaido Prefecture in tourism development, adopt the best practices in agriculture and master the Japanese technology related to road construction and utilization of solid household wastes.”

“After our first meeting in Moscow, I have visited Hokkaido and met with Governor of the Prefecture Harumi Takahasi and representatives of local businesses. And I saw interest in developing relations with the Sakhalin Region," Ruiti Hirano emphasized. "The ferry traffic between Wakkanai and Korsakov already has symbolic significance. Thank you for your efforts devoted to restoring international marine transport operations.”

The parties also discussed options available to Japanese businesses to participate in the creation of a fish cluster with the project participants going to enjoy a number of advantages such as tax and customs preferences and simplified visa arrangements for foreign citizens.
