San Marco arranging own facility in Russia
San Marco Russia owned by San Marco Group (Italy) has become a resident of the "Kaluga" Special Economic Zone (Lyudinovo site). The company is preparing to launch the Region-based production of paints and varnishes focusing on the production of premium class products. Accordingly, San Marco Russia is going to compete with Tikkurila.
San Marco Russia's management has announced that the amount to be invested into the facility will be RUB 168 million. The project's main goal is to migrate a portion of capacities from Italy to Russia. The company has formulations enabling it to manufacture materials suitable for facade works. Such products are based on silicone resins. A range of water-dispersion materials has been developed for internal work. Furthermore, the company manufactures heavy industry-oriented products.
Italian companies producing paints and varnishes actively sold their products to Russia. For instance, in 2015, a total of 23.4 thousand tonnes of paints and varnishes was imported (down 8.5% against 2014). The reduction of imports is due to the fact that Italian paints become increasingly expensive for Russian consumers. Nonetheless, in terms of imports of paints and varnishes to Russia, Italians are outstripped by German corporations only. On the back of Ruble's fall against Euro, in order to cut production costs, foreign companies are increasingly localizing their production operations in Russia.
