Auchan, a French company ranking No.3 among Russia's food retail chains in terms of sale revenues, is planning to invest more than RUB 17 billion for its development.
For comparison, at year-end 2015, Auchan had invested approximately RUB 13 billion to develop its Russian operations. The company's plans extending to this year contemplate the opening of 4 hypermarkets in Moscow, Vladimir and Novokuznetsk.
Furthermore, 4 compact Auchan City hypermarkets are expected to be opened in 2016. Atak, a chain of supermarkets being developed by Auchan, is expected to launch about 40 points of sale throughout 2016.
Auchan's first store was opened in Russia back in 2002. As per available year-end 2015 data, the company managed 92 stores in total, including 58 hypermarkets and 27 Auchan City stores. Atak's Russian chain includes more than 170 stores.
