Isuzu, a Japanese automotive manufacturer, has announced intentions to expand its production capacities in the Ulyanovsk Region. This has been reported by First Deputy of the Regional Government Alexander Smekalin. An Ulyanovsk Government delegation is now visiting Japan together with representatives of the Russian Government to discuss further cooperation between the two countries.

Isuzu assembles cargo vehicles using the space made available by the Ulyanovsk Car Plant with the Japanese facility being capable of manufacturing 5,000 cars p.a.

Moreover, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region has held negotiations with the management of DMG Mori Seiki concern whose project on the construction of a machine tool factory in Zavolzhye Industrial Park has been recognized as the most up-to-date among the concern's entities. A pool of DMG Mori's suppliers will be subsequently created around the facility to localize the production of components designed for the machine tool sector of the whole Russia.

Some Japanese companies pertaining to agriculture, food and processing industries and metal-processing sector have taken interest in cooperation with the Ulyanovsk Region as well. Potential partners' attention was greatly attracted by a project on creating a wind farm and localizing the production of wind-powered generators.

Apart from Isuzu and DMG Mori, today projects are being implemented in the Region's territory by such Japanese companies as Takata (manufacturer of automotive components) and Bridgestone (car tires). The latter is expected to open its facility in September 2016 to become Russia's and CIS countries' first tire plant owned by Bridgestone.
