Due to the fact that the Russian automotive market is intensively shrinking, Renault, as other manufacturers, suffers drastic reductions in sales and output. For the time being, the French have already lost almost 1/3 of their buyers. With such a fall in the background, decreasing the available variety of products seems to be reasonable. However, Renault believes that it will succeed in attracting new customers by expanding its vehicle line. For this purpose, the localization of its production in Russian is a great advantage.

It follows from a statement made by Russian representatives of Renault that the automaker has decided to launch the production of a brand new model at its Moscow-based facility. The newly designed model will be built based on the proven B0 platform. However, the exact model to be manufactured in Russia is yet to be unveiled. Looking at the co-platform model range, the list comprises Duster and Fluense by Renault and Terrano by Nissan.

Additionally, Renault's Logan and Sandero manufactured based on AutoVAZ's capacities should be mentioned. They also have a direct relation to B0 platform.

Experts expect that Renault's new model will take the niche that has become vacant following a change in the Logan Generation in terms of engine power. At the same time it is unclear whether it is going to be a crossover, sedan or hatchback model.

There is a speculation that Renault have embarked on crafting a "Moskvich" brand. The application for registering it was filed as early as in the previous year. If it is true, then Russia should expect to get an analog of Dacia, a brand used by Renault to manufacture low-end cars offered in the local market.
