A New Zealand company may open a sheep farm on the Don River
Fildmark, a company from New Zealand, is considering the possibility of creating a highly productive sheep farm in the Rostov Region and set up the production of sheep milk, according to the Rostov Region Agency for Investment Development's Press Office (AID).
"The company's representatives have already inspected a number of sites that are potentially suitable for accommodating the farm and have visited the Don River region's milk processing plants, the AID's representatives explained.
According to Andrew Holdein, the owner of Fildmark, his initial plans include a small pilot project associated with the creation of a "model sheep farm using best practices of New Zealand agrarians excelling in dairy stock farming." He also noted that the level of stock farming in the Russian South still is behind crop raising and implementing import substitution projects is one of available options to "pull the industry up".
As the AID's representatives explained, the parties intend to continue to jointly consider options for localizing New Zealand companies' projects in the Rostov Region.
Today, New Zealand is the only country in the world where agriculture accounts for more than 50% of GDP with milk products being the main component of export operations and up to 95% of milk produced being exported outside the country.
