"The Sakhalin Region and China will launch joint timber processing and tourism projects. Wang Yu He corporation based in Dalian, Liaoning Province, is ready to invest in the projects. This was agreed on Thursday between the corporation's management and Region's Governor Oleg Kozhemyako", the Press Office of the Sakhalin Region's Government reported.

A delegation of the Chinese corporation is making a visit to Sakhalin. Wang Yu He plans to jointly construct a timber processing plant in the northern part of Sakhalin. The Alexandrovsk-Sakhalin District has been selected to accommodate the facility. This area features huge timber resources and a port that was built as far back as in the Soviet era and may be revived.

The main condition set by the current Government of the Region to be complied with by the Chinese investor is the need to arrange the processing of raw materials in Sakhalin with glued laminated lumber or other high value-added items potentially being end products. The output may be supplied to the domestic market or exported via the upgraded port.

Tourism is another line of cooperation. The Sakhalin Region offers the PRC to exchange groups of tourists. The first group of Chinese tourists is expected to visit Sakhalin as early as in February already. Their wishes will be taken into account when erecting tourist facilities in Sakhalin. E.g. a hotel or balneological compound. Wang Yu He is also ready to invest in the construction of these facilities.
