Madagascan-Russian Bilateral Trade in 2015


In 2015 Madagascan-Russian bilateral trade volume decreased by 63% and reached 5.1 million USD compared to 13.8 million USD in 2014.


Madagascan exports to Russia fell to 1.3 million USD (by 3%) while imports fell to 3.8 million USD (by 69%) (see Figure 1).

Madagascan exports to Russia


Madagascar primarily exports to Russia the following products (see Figure 2, Table 1):


▪ Coffee, tea, mate and spices (57%)

▪ Articles of apparel, accessories, not knit or crochet (20%)

▪ Edible fruit, nuts, peel of citrus fruit, melons (14%)

▪ Articles of apparel, accessories, knit or crochet (4%)

▪ Salt, sulphur, earth, stone, plaster, lime and cement (2%)

▪ Essential oils, perfumes, cosmetics, toileteries (1%)

▪ Toys, games, sports requisites (1%)



In 2015 the imports of Madagascan made products in Russia experienced a significant rise . The imports of toys, games, sports requisites rise by 900%; the imports of coffee, tea, mate and spices- by 89%.

Russian exports to Madagascar


In 2015 Russia has exported to Madagascar the following products (see Figure 3, Table 2):


▪ Cereals (80%)

▪ Products of animal origin, nes (10%)

▪ Paper and paperboard, articles of pulp, paper and board (2%)

▪ Electrical, electronic equipment (2%)

▪ Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (1%)

▪ Residues, wastes of food industry, animal fodder (1%)

▪ Tools, implements, cutlery, etc of base metal (1%)

▪ Commodities not elsewhere specified (1%)

▪ Machinery, nuclear reactors, boilers, etc (1%)


2015 showed a significant rise in Russian exports to Madagascar of tools, implements, cutlery, etc of base metal (+840%). At the same time the exports of edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (-83%) showed a significant fall (see Table 2).
