German-Russian Bilateral Trade in 2015


In 2015 German-Russian bilateral trade volume decreased by 50% and reached 45.2 billion USD compared to 91.1 billion USD in 2014.


German exports to Russia fell to 24.2 billion USD (by 39%) while imports fell to 21.1 billion USD (by 59%) (see Figure 1).

German exports to Russia


Germany primarily exports to Russia the following products (see Figure 2, Table 1):


▪ Machinery, nuclear reactors, boilers, etc (25%)

▪ Vehicles other than railway, tramway (16%)

▪ Electrical, electronic equipment (9%)

▪ Pharmaceutical products (7%)

▪ Plastics and articles thereof (5%)

▪ Optical, photo, technical, medical, etc apparatus (5%)

▪ Commodities not elsewhere specified (3%)

▪ Miscellaneous chemical products (3%)

▪ Essential oils, perfumes, cosmetics, toileteries (2%)

▪ Articles of iron or steel (2%)

▪ Organic chemicals (2%)

▪ Paper and paperboard, articles of pulp, paper and board (2%)

▪ Tanning, dyeing extracts, tannins, derivs,pigments etc (1%)

▪ Rubber and articles thereof (1%)



In 2015 the imports of German made products in Russia experienced a significant fall. The imports of commodities not elsewhere specified fell by 47%; the imports of electrical, electronic equipment- by 41%.

Russian exports to Germany


In 2015 Russia has exported to Germany the following products (see Figure 3, Table 2):


▪ Mineral fuels, oils, distillation products, etc (79%)

▪ Copper and articles thereof (4%)

▪ Aluminium and articles thereof (2%)

▪ Iron and steel (2%)

▪ Wood and articles of wood, wood charcoal (2%)

▪ Pearls, precious stones, metals, coins, etc (1%)

▪ Inorganic chemicals, precious metal compound, isotopes (1%)

▪ Machinery, nuclear reactors, boilers, etc (1%)

▪ Rubber and articles thereof (1%)

▪ Nickel and articles thereof (1%)

▪ Fertilizers (1%)

▪ Other base metals, cermets, articles thereof (1%)


2015 showed a slight rise in Russian exports to Germany of optical, photo, technical, medical, etc apparatus (+5%). At the same time the exports of nickel and articles thereof (-73%) showed a significant fall (see Table 2).
