Ethiopian-Russian Bilateral Trade, 10 months of 2015


In the first 10 months of 2015 Ethiopian-Russian bilateral trade volume decreased by 22% and reached 0.056 billion USD compared to 0.072 billion USD in the same period of 2014.


Ethiopian exports to Russia fell to 0.012 billion USD (by 32%) while imports fell to 0.043 billion USD (by 19%) (see Figure 1).

Ethiopian exports to Russia


Ethiopia primarily exports to Russia the following products (see Figure 2, Table 1):


▪ Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (52%)

▪ Coffee, tea, mate and spices (46%)

▪ Live trees, plants, bulbs, roots, cut flowers etc (0.8%)

▪ Oil seed, oleagic fruits, grain, seed, fruit, etc, nes (0.2%)


In the first 10 months of 2015 the imports of Ethiopian made products in Russia experienced a significant fall. The imports of oil seed, oleagic fruits, grain, seed, fruit, etc, nes fell by 93%; the imports of edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers - by 43%.

Russian exports to Ethiopia


In the first 10 months of 2015 Russia has exported to Ethiopia the following products (see Figure 3, Table 2):


▪ Fertilizers (57%)

▪ Cereals (10%)

▪ Iron and steel (7%)

▪ Paper and paperboard, articles of pulp, paper and board (5%)

▪ Beverages, spirits and vinegar (4%)

▪ Vehicles other than railway, tramway (2%)

▪ Electrical, electronic equipment (1%)

▪ Animal,vegetable fats and oils, cleavage products, etc (0.1%)


The first 10 months of 2015 showed a significant rise in Russian exports to Ethiopia of vehicles other than railway, tramway (+480%). At the same time the exports of iron and steel (-89%) showed a significant fall (see Table 2).
