Altai’s Bituminous Coal Got More Expensive

In 2018 the Altai Territory increased bituminous coal export by 120% in terms of value and by 103% in terms of volume compared to 2017. In total, 3 mln tons of coal worth $195.4 mln were supplied to 13 countries.

The largest importer of bituminous coal from the Altai Territory was Ukraine that accounted for 39.4% of region’s coal export. Other importers of this good included Denmark (19.7%), the Netherlands (19.6%), Turkey (72%), Germany (4.7%), France (2.8%), the United Kingdom (2.2%), Slovakia and China (1.4% each), Kazakhstan and Italy (0.7% each), Poland (0.2%), and Belgium (0.002%) as well.

In 2018 the Altai Territory ranked among the top 10 Russian exporters of bituminous coal. The largest exporter of this good traditionally was Kemerovo Region that provided 70% of Russia’s coal export.
