Russia’s Export And Import Of Pharmaceuticals Containing Insulin

In 2018 Russia’s import of pharmaceutical preparations containing insulin exceeded its export almost fourfold.

The import value of this production stood at $88.61 mln, while the export value amounted to only $23.34 mln.
In 2018 the insulin preparations import reduced by 2%, but the export of these goods had a 22.8-fold increase compared to 2017. Russia’s export growth was caused by supplies to Germany ($22.7 mln). In 2017 Germany did not export insulin preparations from Russia. Also Russia expanded its supplies to Belarus (a 18.4-fold increase), Kazakhstan (+30%), Moldova (+29.7%) and South Ossetia (+18%). In contrast, the import volume of Russian insulin preparations was reduced by Ukraine (-95%), Switzerland (-72%) and Abkhazia (-23%). In addition, Denmark cut off the supplies of this good from Russia.
The largest suppliers of insulin preparations to Russia in 2018 were France (75.6%) and Denmark (23%) followed by Germany (1.1%) and India (0.3%). Negligible volumes of this good were imported from Belarus and China.
