Why Russia-Canada Trade Turnover Decreased

In 2018 Russia-Canada trade turnover reduced by 17% compared to 2017 and amounted to $1.33 bn.


In the bilateral trade structure Canada’s export prevailed. Russia’s import from Canada cut down by 23.8% to $745.9 mln. Russia’s export to Canada also decreased (-6%) and stood at $580.81 mln.

The largest decline in Russian supplies to Canada was recorded in supplies of copper and articles thereof (-65%), compounds of precious metals, rare earth metals, radio-active elements and isotopes (-61%), ferrous metals (-55%) and fertilizers (-12%).
The decrease of Russia’s import from Canada was caused mostly by cut supplies of vehicles (other than railway or tramway rolling stock) (-37%), ferrous metals articles (-21%), optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus (-14%), and animal feed (-11%).
