Japan Started Test Delivery Of Goods To Russia Via Trans-Siberian Railway

The ceremony of launching the test delivery of goods from Japan to Russia first by sea and then via the Trans-Siberian railway took place in Japanese city Yokogawa.

Japan’s Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Toshihiro Matsumoto noted, that the Trans-Siberian railway has a big development potential both for Russia and for Japan.

A test container fitted with temperature, humidity and vibration sensors was dispatched. It shall be delivered to Moscow satellite town Khimki on September 1. The next container will be shipped from Japan on August 31. It will be delivered to Selikatnaya station, Moscow Region. Containers are shipped by sea from Yokogawa port to Vladivostok and then via the Trans-Siberian railway along Russia. Test using of this freight route will continue till the end of 2018. After that, the pilot project results will be examined and summarized. Then it will be decided, whether this freight route will be used on a permanent basis. The new route will reduce transportation time significantly. Now it takes 60 days to deliver cargo by sea across the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean sea. But the delivery time via the Trans-Siberian railway is only 20-27 days. Moreover, the delivery cost is twice as low as the sea route’s one.
