Tyumen Region’s Doubled Export of Reindeer Meat

In the first half of 2018 Tyumen Region has exported 465.836 tn of reindeer meat worth $3.2 mln and thus increased its export both in terms of value and in terms of volume compared to the first half of the previous year.

Tyumen Region’s export of reindeer meat has doubled in terms of value and grown by 44% in terms of volume.

For this period Tyumen Region has exported reindeer meat to two countries, namely to Finland and Germany. The major part of reindeer meat (93.8%) has been exported to Finland (450.345 tn worth $3.02 mln). The rest 6.2% of reindeer meat were supplied to Germany (14.49 tn).

The largest number of tame reindeers (more than 760 thous.) lives in Yamal. Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District is the only Russian region authorized to export reindeer meat to the EU.
