Uzbekistan Overtakes Surinam on Parrots Market

In 2017 Russia imported 17 thous. parrots worth $22 thous., it is a 19% decline compared to 2016 and a 82% recession compared to 2015, when parrots import amounted to $122 thous.

Traditionally Russia has been importing parrots from such countries as Surinam (42.6%), Guinea (19.7%), the Democratic Republic of Congo (12.3%) and Solomon Islands (9.8%). Since 2016 the situation has been changing; the main suppliers of parrots to Russia have become Uzbekistan (40.7%), Mali (33.3%) and Solomon Islands (18.5%). In 2017 Russia imported parrots only from two countries, namely Uzbekistan (78.3%) and Surinam (16.7%).

The traditional leader in world’s export of parrots is the South Africa. In 2017 the top importers of parrots were Bangladesh (12.3%), Japan (9.6%) and the Republic of Korea (9.45).
