The first container train with wood chip was dispatched from Kaliningrad to the Czech Republic on July 4, 2018. The volume of supply exceeded 2 thous. cbm of wood products.
In future it is planned to monthly dispatch up to 2 container trains with wood chip from Dzerzhinskaya-Novaya station to the Czech Republic. The geography of sawmill waste export from Kaliningrad Region also includes Denmark, where wood chip has been shipped by sea to since 2016.
In Northern Europe wood chip is used as a heat source for biofuel-fired thermal power plants. The main importer of Russia’s wood chip is Finnland that cooperates with factories from Leningrad Region and Karelia.
