Russian Ferroalloy Exports Grow in Physical Terms, Remain Same in Value

Russian had to increase its exports of ferroalloys by 8% in physical terms to 122,000 tons in the first two months of 2018 to maintain the same level of proceeds from these exports as last year, $193.8m.

The key Russian ferroalloy exporters are traditionally Kemerovo Region which accounted for 81% of the total in the first quarter of 2018 in South-Western Siberia and Chelyabinsk Region (21%) and Sverdlovsk Region (19%) in the Urals.

The structure of Russian ferroalloy exports:

· ferrosilicon (which Russia is the world’s biggest supplier of) to $104.5m (54%);

· ferrochrome to $42.2m (22%);

· ferrosilicomanganese to $10.8m (6%);

· ferromolybdenum to $9.4m (5%);

· ferromanganese to $7.8m (4%);

· ferrotungsten and ferrosilicotungsten to $7m (3.6%);

· ferrotitanium and ferrosilicotitanium to $5.99m (3.1%);

· other ferroalloys, including ferrovanadium, ferronickel, ferrosilicochrome to $6.1m (3.2%).

Russia exported ferroalloys to more than 40 countries in January and February 2018, the biggest two importers being the Netherlands which accounted for one third of its exports (34%), and Japan (22%).
