According to the Russian Federal Customs Service’s official statistics, Russia’s pork exports stood at $62m in 2016/17— a 50% increase on the previous two years.
However, Russia’s imports of pork exceeded its exports 13 times in 2017.
The leading Russian pork producers are Rostov Region which exported to $18m, Tver Region ($10 m), Voronezh Region ($8m) and Belgorod Region ($8m), to name five out of 23 pork-producing Russian regions.
More than half of Russian pork (64%) went to Ukraine, where pork is proverbially popular, followed, by a large margin by as much pork-loving Belarus (20% of Russian exports in 2017).
