Tyumen Region in Western Siberia exported 6,200 tons of milk and cream to $8.34m in 2017 and become Russia’s sixth biggest regional dairy product exporter.
The West-Siberian region exported largely (89%) sugared condensed milk and cream (4,600 tons to $6.7m) and 1,600 tons of fresh milk and cream worth $1,6m.
Milk and cream make Tyumen’s number one food export although food makes only 0.04% of goods exported by the region specializing in oil and gas.
“Milk products have good export prospects. Tyumen Regions main exports, certainly, are still energy (94%) and chemicals (4%). But the export potentials and existing niches in international food markets can be good drivers for regional producers,” commented Yuri Shurygin, Executive Director of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Exporters.
