Russia’s easternmost Kamchatka Territory exported 6,700 tons of its famous chatka red crab meat to $122.2million in 2017 — a 54% increase on the previous year in value terms and 14%, in physical weight.
Crabmeat is Kamchatka’s No.2 export (17.4%) after frozen fish (70%). Frozen chatka made up 73% of the peninsular territory’s export last year, worth $88,9million. Kamchatka exported 2,000 tons of live and chilled crabmeat to $33,3million in 2017.
The key importers of Kamchatka crabmeat were South Korea (which imported 96.6% of the territory’s exports), China (2.2%), Japan (1.2%), and the Netherlands (0.02%).
