Murmansk Region Boosts Live Fish Imports 20 Times

Murmansk oblast in the North of European Russia imported 409.8 tons of live fish to $7.5 million in 2017— twenty times more than the year before in value terms and sixteen times in physical terms.

The home of once numerous Russia’s North-Atlantic fishing fleet, Murmansk accounts for 71% of total Russian live seafood imports which amounted to 643 tons to $10.6million in 2017.

The region imported mainly trout (49.8%, or 224.67 tons to $3.7m) and salmon (50.2%, or 185 tons to $3.8m) last year. The region’s two main suppliers are neighboring Norway which accounts for 96% of Murmansk imports, and Finland (4%).
