Tomsk Boosts Beer Exports

Central Siberian Tomsk Region’s exports of malt beer in 2017 stood at $2million — a record 42% leap on the previous year in value terms.
Kazakhstan, with its hot and dry summer, was the biggest importer of beer, accounting for 85% ($1.7m) of the Siberian region’s liquid exports last year.

Other importers included China (11%, $222,000), Belarus (3%, $51,000), Mongolia (1%, $17,000), and, surprisingly, Germany, with it large ex-Soviet community of German repatriates from Siberia (including Tomsk Region) and Kazakhstan, who drank Tomsk malt beer to $5,000.

Tomsk Region is the eleventh on the list of Russian malt beer importers. The 2017 top five were St. Petersburg, which exported to $44million, Moscow ($26.8m), Moscow Region ($9.846m), Krasnodar Territory ($8.973m) and Lipetsk Region ($6.371m), together accounting for three quarters (74%) of all Russian malt beer exports.
