Russians Like Curry

Russian imports of curry in 2017 stood at $513,000 — a record 32% increase on the previous year, showing a steady growth from $369,000 in 2015 and $387,000 in 2016.

Russia imports curry from 20 countries, the key suppliers being Poland, which accounts for 29% of Russian imports, closely followed by Austria (28%), and The Netherlands (17%). Oddly, the share of India, as the world’s biggest curry exporter, is only 1%.

The largest consumers of curry are Moscow and Moscow Region accounting jointly for almost a half (49%) of Russian imports of curry, and St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region (37%). Kaliningrad Region consumes 13% of the spice imports, while Maritime Territory in the Russian Far East and Smolensk Region in central European Russia, 1% each, and Krasnoyarsk Territory in central Siberia, 0.1%.
