Russians Prefer Black Indian Tea

The Russians consumed 49,000 tons of black Indian tea in 2017 ó 150 times more than green.

Russia’s imports of black Indian tea totaled US$122m in 2017, a 15% slide on the previous year, while the import of green tea rose by 4% from U$761,000 in 2016 to US$791,000 in 2017.

Leningrad Oblast was the biggest consumer of Indian tea in 2017, accounting for 45% of Russiaís overall imports, followed by the Muscovites, whose share was 27%.

Russia remains the leading importer of Indian tea with its 16% share of Indiaís global exports, closely followed by Iran (15%) and, by a margin, the United States (8%).
