Russia and Iran agree on delivering and assembling railway cars

United Wagon Company (UWC), a Russian research and production company, has reached agreement with three Iranian companies to supply and assemble railway cars in Iran.

United Wagon Company (UWC), a Russian research and production company, has reached agreement with three Iranian companies to supply and assemble railway cars in Iran.


The agreement covers about 6 thousand cars. 4.9 thousand cars of the total number will be assembled in the domestic market while remaining 1.1 thousand will be imported. The Iranian companies intend to complete the assembling of 4.9 thousand cars in 3 years using Russian financing.


The Iranian companies are expected to manufacture car bodies with UWC delivering wheels and brake systems.


The country' Minister of Industry Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh emphasized the need for national manufacturers to timely perform their obligations at a meeting held with the executives of the Iranian companies.


In mid-September 2016, Andrei Polyakov, the President of Roseximbank, reported that the bank planned to provide RUB 1 bln of financing for United Wagon Company's transaction contemplating the delivery of railway cars to Iran until the end of 2016 with the next stages contemplating the expansion of deliveries and involvement of other major Russian banks, including VTB, in the project.
