Governor Alexander Zhilkin of the Astrakhan Region has held a meeting with representatives of the Iranian businesses operating in the Region.

"Iran still remains for the Astrakhan Region one of key foreign trade partners at the international arena. We have passed the 20 years' line of Astrakhan-Iranian bilateral ties. Over a number of years, we have observed a stable growth of mutual trades, an increasingly growing number of businesses featuring Iranian equity and efforts aimed to boost their investment activities", Alexander Zhilkin said.

Iranian businessmen of a new wave – as Ali Mohammadi, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Astrakhan, called them – arrive at the Region ready to settle on here. Payvand Group (Iran) is implementing a large-scale investment project in agribusiness, OJSC Astrakhan Port does successfully operate, direct Astrakhan-Tehran flights have been launched, there is a functioning Astrakhan branch of Mir Business Bank and an Iranian shopping center is about to open.

High hopes for boosting relations are rested on the forthcoming visit of the Region's delegation to the neighboring Caspian country. "We plan to hold a series of important meetings and negotiations in Tehran as well as to visit Mazandaran Province. I'm sure that the visit will facilitate the development of partnership relations between the Astrakhan Region and Iran and enable us not only to overcome all adverse factors but also to bring our cooperation to a brand new level", the Astrakhan Governor noted.
