Valmet to supply equipment to upgrade Arkhangelsk cellulose facility

Valmet (Sweden) has embarked on the implementation of a project designed to upgrade the caustization string of Caustization and Lime Reburning Shop 3 at OJSC Arkhangelsk Pulp-and-Paper Plant. According to Thomas Malmqvist, the Director of Valmet's Sales Unit, the upgrade will allow boosting the plant's capacity and considerably reducing operating costs.

Valmet (Sweden) has embarked on the implementation of a project designed to upgrade the caustization string of Caustization and Lime Reburning Shop 3 at OJSC Arkhangelsk Pulp-and-Paper Plant. According to Thomas Malmqvist, the Director of Valmet's Sales Unit, the upgrade will allow boosting the plant's capacity and considerably reducing operating costs.


"This project sparks special interest as this is the first time we supply OptiDisc, a next generation lime sludge disk filter", Mr. Malmqvist commented. "The design of the filter enhances operational safety and improves the performance of the plant's equipment".


The upgrading of Caustization and Lime Reburning Shop 3 at OJSC Arkhangelsk Pulp-and-Paper Plant includes the reconstruction of the caustization system, including cooling, lime slacking, white sludge filtering, lime sludge washing and drying. Apart from the core and auxiliary equipment, the order also extends to instrumentation and control devices, electric motors and a DCS control system.


The cost advantage resulting from the implementation of the Arkhangelsk Pulp-and-Paper Plant's project will be RUB 37.5 million per annum with the cost of the required equipment not exceeding EUR 10 million.
