Portuguese decide to construct pharmaceutical plant in Smolensk Region

Smolensk is being visited by representatives of Apifarma, the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Industry Association. At their meeting with the Governor they expressed readiness to setup a facility to produce medicines in our region. Joakim Chaves, a member of Basi Laboratory's Board of Directors, and Miranda Tebar, CEO of Azevedo Group, touched on potential supplies of Portuguese medicinal and associated products to the Smolensk Region and creation of a pharmaceutical facility in the Region.

Portuguese Pharmaceutical Industry Association Apifarma unites 11 companies producing, researching, developing and promoting medicinal preparations for medical and animal applications as well as those dealing with raw materials.

The Governor emphasized that he is interested in cooperation with potential investors. "We will provide maximum assistance, including in identifying potential partners. Regional authorities are ready to consider the free of charge allocation of land for the plant for a considerable period of time and ready to provide tax and other benefits", Mr. Ostrovsky noted.

Joakim Chaves mentioned that the certification of medicinal preparations to be produced in the Smolensk Region would be the key challenge and the Governor of the Region said that he is ready to assist in this regard by negotiating with the Russian Ministry of Health Care.
