Siemens localizes its loco production in Ural to almost 100%

Siemens, a German concern, has localized its production of Sinara and Granit electric locomotives in Ural to almost 100%, according to Mr. Dietrich Meller, the President of Siemens Russia and Central Asia and Vice President of Siemens AG.

The contract requires that the level of localization for passenger trains to have reached 80% by 2017. About 100 Russian enterprises are involved in the supplying of components for electric trains and locomotives.

Ural Locomotives continues to localize its production of such critical components for electric trains as bogie frames. It also assembles and paints superstructures and deals with startup operations. Components manufactured domestically are used for trains and locos.

Mr. Meller added that all Russia-based Siemens factories continue to consistently localize their productions.

Ural Locomotives (Verkhnaya Puishma, Sverdlovsk Region) was founded in 2010 as a joint venture of Sinara, a Russian machine-building group, and Siemens AG to jointly produce railway machinery and equipment. The factory produces 2ES6 Sinara and 2ES10 Granit DC electric freight locomotives as well as Lastochka electric passenger trains.
